Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) is the only private university of science and technology selected for the Japanese government's exclusive Top Global University Project. The new Innovative Global Program — IGP — at SIT’s College of Engineering aims to prepare students as the next generations of science and technology specialists who can contribute as true global citizens. The IGP welcomes English-speaking and international students by providing them with various tools to design their own unique Honors Programs based on their interests. First-year students, as soon as they join the Program, are involved in research projects and learn actively (Research-Based Learning) from their research projects.

    Honors Program

    Students are guided by a supervisor and advisers to create an interdisciplinary major option by combining selected courses that fit their individual learning needs. First-year students can start researching a theme or a specific issue and formulate a specific curriculum accordingly.     Lab Rotation

    From their second year, students undertake a lab rotation, spending short periods in laboratories of various disciplines to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge of other fields. Students acquire a global perspective on science and engineering while learning diverse ways to solve problems characteristic of each field.     Presentrd at International Conference

    The aim is for students to present their own research results at an International Conference at least once during their studies. For the Graduation Thesis Program, they will practice leadership by forming their own team and disseminating their results to society. While undertaking Research-Based Learning, students also study required specialist subjects and other disciplines to acquire a more global perspective. The capacity to demonstrate international leadership is fostered by incorporating presentations and discussions. The curriculum is also structured in a way that builds capabilities in the areas of diversity, ethics and social contribution.
