Derived from our founding philosophy, the objective of this university is to cultivate "global science
and engineering citizens who learn from the world and contribute to the world."
The Innovative Global Program (IGP) fosters individuals with the ability to solve various global
problems to achieve a sustainable society by leveraging a broad knowledge of science and
engineering, and who are also suited to becoming such "global citizens."

Accordingly, the type of students sought for the IGP is described below, and admission selection will
be based on these attributes.

  1. Those who can gather information, think creatively and communicate with others using English.

  2. Those who have already acquired higher academic skills in mathematics and science.

  3. Those who are able to understand cultural differences and respect diversity.

  4. Those who love to embrace challenges.

  5. Those who have a strong interest in learning through research-based study.

The applicant must meet one of the requirements below to be eligible to apply for SIT.

  1. A person has graduated from Upper Secondary Schools or other Secondary Education Schools in Japan

  2. A person has completed Primary and Secondary School Education in a foreign country

(1) Primary and Secondary School Education in a foreign country

  • A person has completed a 12-year school education course in a foreign country.

  • A person has completed a course at a designated Japanese educational institution overseas as equivalent to high school.

  • A person has completed 12 years of education at educational institutions accredited by international accrediting bodies (WASC, ACSI, CIS, NEASC, Cognia and COBIS ) .

(2) Primary and secondary school education course is less than 12 years

  • A person has completed a school course of an overseas educational institution corresponding to an upper secondary school (less than 12 years) +has completed a designated preparatory education course.

  • A person has completed a school course of an overseas educational institution corresponding to an upper secondary school certified by Japanese government (MEXT).

(3) A person’s education does not fall under (1) or (2)

  • A person holds qualification for foreign university admission including the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Abitur, the Baccalaureate, the General Certificate of Education (GCE) A Levels, the International A Levels (Cambridge International A-Level, Oxford International AQA Examinations, Pearson Edexcel, Learning Resource Network) and the European Baccalaureate.

  • A person has completed a school course at a designated international school in Japan.(※If the school course is less than 12 years, completion of a designated preparatory education course is necessary.)

  • A person 18 years or older who has passed an academic qualification test equivalent to completion of a 12-year school course in a foreign country.(※If the school course is less than 12 years, completion of a designated preparatory education course is necessary.

* “A person has completed a 12-year school course” means the person has completed the 12th year of formal education.

* If none are applicable, there are cases in which the person may be eligible through individual admission qualification. If there is any confirmation regarding the eligibility, please contact SIT Admission Section (nyushi@ow.shibaura-it.ac.jp).

In addition, the applicant must take/have taken Mathematics, and either Physics or Chemistry in secondary school. Some laboratories designate either physics or chemistry as a requirement.
